Why Akomodix
Over more than 25 years we have installed, maintained and updated mail systems of every kind: patch after patch, migrations, features we waited years for from the established vendors. Akomodix grew out of that: a server and apps written from scratch, with everything we have learnt built in, on infrastructure we run ourselves in Switzerland.
The mail server is written by us, from scratch, in Rust, around JMAP, the most modern standard for email. No third-party product underneath: we make the decisions on security and features.
The platform runs on our own hardware, in Swiss data centres, managed only by our own staff.
Web, iPhone, Android and desktop share the same core. No third-party tracking kits inside the apps.

Newsletters can't tell when or where you open a message, until you decide to show the images.

With JMAP the server tells the app the moment a message arrives: no checking every few minutes, no wasted battery.
On your phone, credentials live in the device's secure hardware, not in a file.
Focus mode
A classic email program interrupts you every time something arrives. The Akomodix apps rethink Calendar, Tasks and Mail around the time you actually spend working.
One switch, work blocks and breaks. During a block, only VIPs and replies in ongoing conversations notify at once; the rest arrives at the end of the block. On your phone you can also turn it on from quick settings. You decide what gets through: no counters, no streaks to keep alive.
Your mail sorts itself into People, Automatic and Newsletters: you see straight away who actually wrote to you, and the rest when you have time.
The Calendar opens on what is happening now and what comes next, not on a grid of an entire month.
Tasks with a date appear in your agenda next to your appointments. Overdue ones don't turn red: they move to today, marked To reschedule. No red, no shame.
Focus mode is in the phone app and the desktop app, with the same rules and the same VIPs.

It shows where your time went: calls, mail you write, notes, and who is on “To call back”. In daily use only you see it; like your work mail, it belongs to the company. It stays off until you choose what it records.
How the Journal worksSecurity
Protections built into the server and the apps, the same for every customer. We check them with automated tests, not promises.
Connections encrypted with TLS 1.3. The server refuses to accept unencrypted mail from our gateways.
Messages and attachments are stored encrypted, with a separate key for each business.
Between Akomodix users, messages travel end-to-end encrypted with OpenPGP, and the apps also read S/MIME. Your business switches it on with the signatures of the people who represent it: you receive a registered letter and encryption starts after 14 days, unless someone stops it. The recovery key is yours alone: if you lose it, we can't recover it. We can't read encrypted messages.
Sign in with a password and a one-time code. After five failed attempts, access is locked.
Every phone or program has its own. If you lose a device, you shut it out without changing everything else.
Mail from the internet goes through the CybeTower anti-spam and anti-virus gateways, another product of ours, before it reaches the server.

Yes. The platform uses standard protocols (IMAP, SMTP, CalDAV, CardDAV), so it works with the most common programs and phones. With Mail on iPhone, new mail arrives without instant notifications. Classic Outlook connects natively, with shared calendars and delegation.
Yes. Mail, Calendar, Contacts and Tasks in a single app, on your computer and your phone, connected directly to your server, with message rules, multiple signatures and templates. And with Focus mode, which Outlook doesn't have. Unlike Outlook for phones and the new Outlook, your mail doesn't pass through anyone else's servers: according to Microsoft's own documentation, those apps copy even accounts from other providers, such as Gmail or an IMAP mailbox, into its cloud.
Because, according to Microsoft's documentation, the new Outlook and Outlook for mobile sync accounts from other providers by copying email, calendar and contacts into Microsoft's data centres. With our platform, your messages stay between you and our server in Switzerland: that's why we block them and offer you our apps instead.
